Sign In to Your Direct Mail Account on iOS

Here's how to sign in:

  1. Open the Direct Mail app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Enter the email address associated with your Direct Mail account
  3. Tap Sign In

What happens next depends on your account. You may be signed in immediately, or you may be asked to approve the sign-in from your Mac, to enter your password, or to sign in with your organization's single sign-on provider. Each of these is covered below.

Once you've signed in, Direct Mail will keep you signed in on that device, even if you quit and re-open the app.

Direct Mail for iPhone and iPad uses the same account as Direct Mail for Mac. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one in Direct Mail on your Mac — the iPhone and iPad app can't create one for you.

If You're Signed In Right Away

If you also use Direct Mail on a Mac and have iCloud Keychain turned on, your email address and password have already been carried over to your iPhone or iPad. In that case there's nothing else to type: tap Sign In and you're in.

Approve the Sign-In From Your Mac

Rather than typing your password on a phone keyboard, Direct Mail can ask a Mac that's already signed in to your account to approve this device. When this option is available, you'll see a screen titled Sign In Using Your Mac.

  1. Tap Continue. Your iPhone or iPad will display a four-digit code.
  2. Go to your Mac and open Direct Mail. A window will appear that says "A device is trying to sign in to your account", along with the name, model, and location of the device that asked.
  3. Make sure the device described is the one in your hand.
  4. Type the four-digit code from your iPhone or iPad into the window on your Mac.
  5. Click Approve, and confirm with Touch ID if your Mac asks.

Your iPhone or iPad will sign itself in as soon as your Mac approves it.

A few things to know about this method:

  • The code expires after about 90 seconds. If it runs out before you get to your Mac, tap Start Over on your iPhone or iPad to get a fresh one.
  • Your Mac needs to be turned on, connected to the Internet, and running Direct Mail version 8.2 or later, signed in to the same account. The request appears inside Direct Mail on your Mac — never in a web browser and never in an email.
  • The code travels from your screen to your Mac's keyboard and nowhere else. Never read this code aloud to someone, send it in a message, or type it anywhere other than the Direct Mail window on your own Mac. Our support team will never ask you for it.
  • You get one attempt at the code. If it's typed incorrectly, the request is cancelled and you'll need to start over on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Would you rather type your password? Tap Use Password Instead.
  • If a request appears on your Mac and you weren't trying to sign in anywhere, click This Wasn't Me. Direct Mail will stop the prompts and show you how to secure your account.

If this option isn't offered to you, it's because your account hasn't been used recently with a version of Direct Mail for Mac new enough to approve other devices (8.2 or later). Choose Direct Mail > Check for Updates on your Mac, or simply sign in with your password instead.

Sign In With Your Password

  1. Enter your password
  2. Tap Sign In

If you've forgotten your password, tap Forgot Password. We'll email you a link you can use to reset it. If the message doesn't arrive within a few minutes, please check your spam folder.

Two-Factor Authentication

If your account uses two-factor authentication, you'll be asked for the six-digit code from your authenticator app after you enter your password. Enter the six digits and Direct Mail signs you in — there's no additional button to tap.

Sign In Using Single Sign-On (SSO)

You can sign in to Direct Mail using your organization's single sign-on provider. This feature is available to accounts that have an enterprise pricing plan with us (please contact our support team for more information).

To use single sign-on, follow the instructions at the top of this article. There's no password to enter: after you tap Sign In, a secure browser window opens with your organization's sign-in page. Complete the sign-in there, and the window will close and return you to Direct Mail.

Sign Out

  1. Tap the back button in the upper-left corner until you reach the Account screen — the one showing your name and email address at the top
  2. Scroll to the bottom
  3. Tap Sign Out

Signing out removes the copy of your projects that was stored on that device and stops notifications from being sent to it. Nothing in your account is changed, and all of your data remains safely in the cloud.

If You Still Can't Sign In

  • "Incorrect email or password." Check the email address for typos, then tap Forgot Password to reset your password.
  • "There's no Direct Mail account with that email address." Sign in using the email address of your Direct Mail account — the same one you use to sign in on your Mac. It's often different from the "from" address you send your campaigns with.
  • "Too many sign-in requests." For your protection, we limit how often a device can ask to be approved. Wait a little while and try again, or sign in with your password instead.
  • The option to approve from your Mac has disappeared. If a code was recently entered incorrectly, or if someone clicked This Wasn't Me, Direct Mail won't offer that option again for a while. Sign in with your password instead.
  • Nothing appears on your Mac. Make sure Direct Mail is open on your Mac and signed in to the same account, and that the Mac is connected to the Internet. If it still doesn't appear, sign in with your password instead.

If none of the above helps, please contact our support team and let us know what you see on screen — we're happy to help.
