What’s New in Direct Mail 7

Direct Mail 7 is packed with so many new and improved features, it's difficult to list them all. Here are some of the highlights:

Messages

  • New image browser makes it easy to import photos, images, and graphics from your Photos app, Google Photos, Instagram, Unsplash, and Bing Image Search
  • New template browser makes it easy to sort, search, and share the templates in your collection
  • New Design Test interface makes it easier to create, browse, and share design tests
  • New poll randomization options help prevent bias in responses
  • New full-text search for all of your messages and campaign reports
  • Several new font choices for greater expressiveness
  • Larger thumbnails in the source list make it easier to find and browse messages
  • Support for replacing the Twitter icon with the X icon
  • Support for Rumble, TikTok, Mastodon, and several additional social media services
  • Support for Rumble and TikTok videos
  • Support for wide-gamut color and images
  • Sort messages by date or name
  • Buttons can now use custom fonts and text styles
  • Preview window now shows an auto-updating list of the most popular mobile screen sizes in all major markets
  • Select multiple blocks or sections in your newsletter at a time for faster editing
  • New Spam Report interface makes it easier to edit your message without having to switch between windows
  • Direct Mail now uses friendlier URLs when sharing your campaign on the web or via social media

Contacts

  • "Addresses" have been renamed to "Contacts"
  • Redesigned data model organizes your contacts into lists, groups, and smart groups
  • Powerful de-duplication logic makes it easy to merge duplicate contacts in your list, automatically or by hand
  • All new inspector shows you detailed data about your lists and groups, including engagement level, open and click rates, retention and churn, and more.
  • Rebuilt importing engine lets you sync Direct Mail with a wide variety of data sources, including CSV files, Excel spreadsheets, Google Sheets, FileMaker databases, Daylite, Apple Contacts, Mailchimp, as well as any ODBC data source.
  • Contacts can now have up to 30 custom fields
  • New search options make it easy to find contacts that you just imported, contacts matching rules you specify, highly engaged contacts, contacts in a geographic region, and more.
  • Smart groups rules have been expanded to include engagement-based rules, making it easy to target your most- and least-engaged contacts
  • Smart groups now include geographic-based rules, making it easy to target contacts based on where they are
  • New data detector integration makes it easy to email, call, or text a contact, or pull up a link or map based on the data you have saved
  • New multi-selection interface makes it easy to edit multiple contacts at once, including search and replace
  • Multi-window editing makes it easy to view and edit multiple contacts side-by-side
  • Easily sort your lists and groups by date or name
  • New, fully customizable profile pages let your contacts update their email preferences via the web
  • Customize the unsubscribe page a subscriber sees when they decide to leave
  • Instead of unsubscribing, contacts can now choose what kinds of content they want to subscribe to and with what frequency New unsubscribe survey captures why contacts choose to leave your list
  • “Activity” and “Timeline” inspectors show you a detailed view of each contact's activity and history
  • Importing smart lists from Daylite is now supported
  • Information about bounced contacts can now be synced back to Daylite

Reports

  • Redesigned campaign summary surfaces the most important details in an easy-to-understand way
  • Compare campaign results to historical trends
  • New search options make it easy to find campaigns sent with particular content, sent at a certain time, or sent to a particular list or group
  • New campaign share sheet makes it easy to share campaign report data in PDF or CSV format
  • Get detailed poll results with an all new Polls section of the campaign report
  • Redesigned Charts section shows more charts at once with additional charts covering open rates, delivery rates, and more
  • All new heat-map features reveals visually where subscribers are clicking on your email
  • Enhanced bot filtering improves the accuracy of your open and click data
  • Break down open rates, click rates, unsubscribes, bounces, complaints and more based on email address domain, company, or any other characteristic your contacts might share.
  • Improved detection of which email app your subscribers are using
  • Easier management of campaign deliveries in progress

Sign-up Forms

  • All-new form builder supports building landing pages, embedded forms, and pop-up forms
  • View form analytics, including number of form views, abandoned forms, and submitted forms
  • Choose between single opt-in and double opt-in forms
  • Get notifications (either individually or in batches) when a new subscriber joins
  • Capture geographic location when a subscriber joins your list

Collaboration

  • Sync engine improvements make syncing data between devices up to twice as fast.
  • Redesigned Integrations interface makes it easier to connect Direct Mail to thousands of other apps you may already use
  • Improved collaboration interface makes it easy to share links to your Direct Mail Project file, send invitations, and more

Email Delivery

  • Track the progress of long-running campaign deliveries just by glancing at the Direct Mail app icon in the Dock with a built-in progress bar
  • Image optimization intelligently compresses your images so they load even faster for recipients
  • Spread out email delivery over several hours or days to prevent your website or phone lines from getting overwhelmed
  • Optimize email delivery for each recipient’s time zone, so they get your email at the exact time of day you choose
  • Improved delivery engine handles errors and interruptions more gracefully without interrupting your work
  • Campaigns sent via your own mail server (or Google or Outlook) can now be rescheduled

Other

  • File format improvements dramatically reduce the amount of hard drive space used by your projects
  • Hundreds of bug fixes for a more reliable experience
  • New users can take advantage of our Concierge Service to import lists and templates from other email services
  • New Personal Data Report user interface makes it easy to redact portions of the report you don’t want shared with others
  • Direct Mail is now more resilient under suboptimal network conditions, with fewer interruptions to your workflow and faster updates
  • Sync SMTP, Google, Microsoft and other linked accounts between your devices
